Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) Surveillance & Health Education System

The AFP-SCAN (Acute Flaccid Paralysis Surveillance, Case Finding and Notification) web-based application is an integrated digital epidemiological surveillance information system specifically designed to strengthen the early detection of Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) syndrome within the working area of the UPTD Cluwak Public Health Center, Pati Regency, Central Java Province. This innovative platform was developed as a primary healthcare managerial intervention to serve as a direct response to global and national epidemiological dynamics regarding the re-emergence threat of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus. AFP-SCAN modernizes conventional, previously fragmented recording workflows by unifying instant suspect case reporting, mandatory periodic zero-reporting compliance, and active case finding (ACF) tracking documentation into a single centralized database.

The system implements Role-Based Access Control principles to activate the surveillance network from end to end, engaging community health volunteers (kader) at integrated health posts (posyandu), village midwives at village health posts, and medical doctors or surveillance officers at the main public health center. AFP-SCAN transforms raw field reporting into interactive location maps and regional zoning visualizations. This real-time monitoring dashboard is crucial for public health center management to eliminate reporting blind spots (silent areas), measure data timeliness and completeness parameters, and accelerate epidemiological investigation responses to under 48 hours. Ultimately, the implementation of the AFP-SCAN platform, combined with clinical capacity building for community volunteers, aims to serve as a frontline defense to monitor, safeguard, and maintain Indonesia's polio-free status sustainably.
